Memory Lane: Riding the Ancient Via Appia Antica

In 2016, I didn’t just see Rome, I felt it beneath my wheels. Riding with BICI&BACI, we cruised along the Via Appia Antica, an ancient road laid down over two thousand years ago. I found it hard to believe I was on the same path once walked by Roman legions and traders. It was quiet and timeless, nothing like the usual city buzz.

The day unfolded slowly. We wound through cypress-lined stretches, ancient ruins whispered their stories, and the weight of history settled in. Other stops, the views from Janiculum Hill and the narrow streets of the old city, faded into the background. This was the moment Rome grabbed me.

We paused for espresso and gelato, the perfect fuel for a day on two wheels, but the real energy came from the road beneath us. This was not a tourist checklist. It was a connection to something bigger, older, and alive.

That day, Rome was more than a city on a map. It was a journey through time, and BICI&BACI made sure I rode right through it.
