A Day Trip from Andorra la Vella: Tibetan Bridge & Roc del Quer

For one of our more adventurous outings in Andorra, we left the comfort of Andorra la Vella behind and headed up to Canillo for a day full of height, views, and a touch of adrenaline.

Getting There

The buses from Andorra la Vella to Canillo run frequently, so it is easy to plan the journey, but it is worth checking the timings in advance. We were staying in the Escaldes-Engordany area, and our bus stop was less than five minutes from the hotel. We cannot remember the bus number, but the route was straightforward and dropped us right into Canillo. It is a very popular day trip from the capital, so most of the bus passengers were getting off in the same place as us.

Pont Tibetà de Canillo

Our first stop was the Pont Tibetà de Canillo (Tibetan Bridge). We bought our tickets at the Tourist Information Office in Canillo, and those same tickets doubled as our bus passes. The bus took us from the town up to the drop-off point, and from there it was about a 1 km walk to the start of the bridge trail.

At over 600 metres long and suspended 158 metres above the valley floor, this bridge is not just a crossing, it is an experience. The walk across is narrow, steady, and very high. Every step offered sweeping views of the Pyrenees, and when we looked down (very cautiously), we felt the thrill of floating above the landscape. We had to stop in the middle a few times just to take it all in. Tickets were checked before entry, so we kept them handy.

Mirador Roc del Quer

When we were done with the bridge, we waited for the next bus, which took us on a very scenic drive further up the mountain to the Roc del Quer stop. From there, it was less than a kilometre walk to the Mirador Roc del Quer, a viewpoint that really leans into drama. A glass walkway juts out over the hillside, giving the sense of walking into the sky. The mountains stretched endlessly, with layers of peaks rolling into the distance. At the viewpoint, there is also a striking statue called “The Ponderer” by Argentine sculptor Miguel Ángel González, which adds a point of interest and a great photo opportunity. Tickets were checked here before entry too.

A Perfect Day Trip

This combination of the bridge and viewpoint is sold together as a package through Visit Andorra, which makes it an easy day trip from the capital. With the buses linking the two sites, the journey is smooth. The trip is as much about the journey as the destinations, and we really felt the shift from city life in Andorra la Vella to the high-altitude drama of Canillo.

Final Thoughts

The Pont Tibetà and Roc del Quer are exactly the kind of experiences that stick with you. Walking on air in the Pyrenees is not something you do every day. For us, it was the perfect reminder of why we love going a little out of the loop. Sometimes the best adventures are found at the end of a bridge.
