After exploring Boppard in Germany’s Rhine Valley, we stopped at Vineum Wine Shop for a local wine tasting featuring Riesling, Spätburgunder and Eiswein from the famous Bopparder Hamm vineyards.

We stopped in Vila Nova de Gaia for a port tasting at Burmester, one of the oldest and most respected port houses. After sampling a crisp white and a smooth tawny, I actually know what I’d order at a wine bar — and even bought a bottle to take home.
