Memory Lane: Salzburg in a Day (2017) and the Sachertorte Detour
Salzburg was a one-day stop for us in 2017, part of a tour where you get just enough time to fall a little bit in love with a place… and then you’re back on the coach again.
We joined a walking tour through the city centre, ticking off the Salzburg highlights in that satisfying “oh wow, it really is that pretty” kind of way. We wandered around Mirabell Palace, with its tidy gardens and fairytale feel, and stopped at Salzburg Cathedral too. If you know me, you’ll know I’ll always find my way into a church, no matter what country I’m in.
Most of the group headed up to Hohensalzburg Fortress for the views. We went rogue. Not in a dramatic way, just in a “priorities are priorities” way.
Instead, we made our own little pilgrimage to Café Sacher Salzburg for a slice of history: the Sachertorte. Because if you’re in Austria and you get the chance to eat something iconic, you take it. No hesitation. No regrets. Just chocolate.
I don’t have the best photos from that day, but I remember Salzburg clearly. It was beautiful, elegant, and quietly confident. And sometimes, that’s enough.
