Memory Lane: Ljubljana, Slovenia
Ljubljana was our next stop after Lake Bled, and even though we only had a day, it still managed to leave an impression. We arrived in the late afternoon and joined a walking tour with a local guide, the kind that makes a city instantly click.
We wandered through the centre, stopping at Dragon Bridge to see the famous statues up close. From there, we made our way towards Prešeren Square, where the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation stood out immediately, glowing pink against the softer colours around it. Ljubljana felt calm, pretty, and quietly confident, even with tourists drifting through.
We didn’t make it up to Ljubljana Castle in time, which was a shame, but it also gave me a reason to come back one day and do it properly.
That evening, we joined other coach tours at a restaurant for a traditional Slovenian cultural night, with dinner, music, and a little show of dance and song. I even joined in the dancing, which says a lot because I’m not usually the first to volunteer… unless it’s for the plot.
Ljubljana was brief, but genuinely lovely.
