Memory Lane: Brugge in 2016 (Waffles, Canals & the Beer Wall

Brugge was our next stop in 2016, straight after Amsterdam, and it felt like stepping into a postcard. We joined a walking tour first, which was the perfect way to get our bearings and soak up the city properly. It was busy, but the weather was bright and sunny for October, which made the whole place feel even more picture-perfect.

Somewhere along the route, we stopped for a waffle from Chez Albert on Katelijnestraat. It was my first Belgian waffle in Belgium, and honestly… it lived up to the hype. Warm, sweet, and exactly what you want when you’re wandering a city that looks like it was designed for slow strolling.

We passed through Market Square and took in the Belfry towering over the centre, then drifted past rows of chocolate shops that made it almost impossible not to buy something. Later, we ended up at the Beer Wall, which felt like the most Belgian way possible to finish the day.

One of the sweetest moments was near the Minnewater, where we saw someone propose by the water. Brugge does romance effortlessly, even when it’s not your own.
