Flying High Over Stavanger: Our Helicopter Adventure to Pulpit Rock

There’s something about seeing a place from the sky that changes everything. On our first trip to Norway, we kicked off our adventure in Stavanger with a helicopter ride to the famous Pulpit Rock. It was our first time in a chopper and the views were nothing short of spectacular. If you’ve ever dreamed of soaring over fjords and cliffs without breaking a sweat, this story is for you.

In Stavanger, we booked an excursion with P&O Cruises, a helicopter ride to the iconic Pulpit Rock.

I made sure I got the front-row seat right next to the pilot. No way was I missing those views. My husband settled in the backseat by the window, and there was another couple on the ride with us. It was our first ever helicopter experience and from the sky, the stunning Lysefjord looked like a scene from a movie.

We flew over charming towns like Sandnes, Forsand, Adnoy, Songesand, Jørpeland, and of course Stavanger itself. The lush greenery stretched out beneath us, wrapping the winding Lysefjord as it sliced through towering cliffs. Tiny villages dotted the shores, with the deep blue water providing a stunning contrast to the vibrant landscape.

When we reached Pulpit Rock, the weather had other plans. It was cloudy up there so we only caught a brief glimpse of the famous cliff before the mist rolled in. Still, seeing it from the air was an unforgettable moment.

I’ve always wanted to hike Pulpit Rock but let’s be honest, I’m not quite fit enough for that trek. My husband thinks the helicopter ride would be the better option, and after doing it I have to agree. Even if it was a bit pricier, we got the breathtaking views without the sweat.

The best part? This excursion gave us plenty of time to explore the rest of Stavanger afterwards. I’ll be sharing a walking route for that soon so stay tuned.

If you’re thinking of this excursion, book early, and definitely bring a camera because you never know when the sun might peek through.

Our helicopter ride gave us a fresh perspective on Norway’s stunning fjords and the iconic Pulpit Rock, even if the clouds played hide and seek. It was the perfect way to see the sights without the hike, and it left us with plenty of time to explore Stavanger’s charming streets afterwards. Keep an eye out for our upcoming walking route because there is so much more to discover.
